Man Who Beat His 2-Day-Old Baby To Death Faces Brutal Reckoning After Cellmate Discovers His Secret

Liam Deane Found Dead in Prison One Month After Conviction for Daughter’s Murder

Liam Deane, who was convicted for the brutal killing of his newborn daughter, was found dead in his prison cell just a month after being sentenced. Authorities allege that fellow inmate John Westland was responsible for Deane’s death.

Westland later appeared in court in connection with the incident.

Deane had been sentenced to life in prison after admitting to fatally attacking his two-day-old daughter, Luna. According to court reports, he punched and violently shook the infant because she would not stop crying. Luna succumbed to severe brain injuries three days later.

During the trial, the prosecutor stated, “He admitted he was responsible for all of Luna’s injuries. He said she wouldn’t settle down, and he lost control.”

Richard Wright, the attorney who represented Deane at Leeds Crown Court, said, “In my submission, there is simply no explanation for the defendant’s behavior.”

Deane’s death drew attention to the vulnerability of certain inmates within the prison system, particularly those convicted of crimes against children.
